4 min read

In the realm of Earth observation, where every image tells a story, SkyFi's unwavering mission is to unlock the power of near real-time data and provide vital insights to those seeking the truth behind local and global events.

So when the SkyFi team came across a tweet from @ReedTimmerAccu highlighting a flood from the Canadian River into Texas, we recognized the urgency and need for ground truth and took action.

The tweet serves as a signal of a calamitous event unfolding. Determined to capture the essence of the flood and provide near real-time analysis, SkyFi tasked the Satellogic constellation to capture a 25 km² high resolution image of the campsites near the Canadian River.

On June 3, 2023, four days after the tweet had ignited Texas' attention, Satellogic’s satellite successfully captured a 75 cm resolution, daytime image of the flood. The image, a testament to cutting-edge technology, showcases the immense scale and impact of the unfolding natural disaster.

In the image, the Canadian River swells beyond its banks, swallowing vast areas with its relentless power. The water, murky and overwhelming, engulfs roads, campsites, and vast stretches of land. It is a stark reminder of nature's unyielding force and the vulnerability of those caught in its path.

SkyFi understands the significance of this image. It is not just a snapshot of a catastrophic event; it is a window into ground truth. With this visual evidence, SkyFi seeks to spread awareness and empower individuals to understand the gravity of the situation.

Moreover, SkyFi's image holds the potential to aid search and rescue operations, providing crucial information on the extent of the flood and areas most severely impacted. The accurate and timely insights derived from the image can help save lives and mitigate the devastating consequences of the disaster.

Understanding the far-reaching impact of the flood, SkyFi also seeks to emphasize the broader implications for various industries. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of ground truth in sectors such as disaster response, search and rescue, insurance, and media reporting.

By harnessing Earth observation data, companies can gain a deeper understanding of the risks posed by natural disasters, monitor infrastructure, and enable effective planning for future scenarios. Through our web and mobile apps, SkyFi aims to inspire individuals, businesses, and authorities to embrace the power of near real-time high resolution imagery and ground truth, fostering a proactive approach to dealing with crises.
