We’re thrilled to welcome Batuhan to the SkyFi team as an AI Software Engineer!
Batuhan (Batu) joins us from Gauntlet AI, where he advanced from Challenger to Champion in the second cohort. Conversations with participants gave him a clear view into SkyFi’s work and team culture. The alignment between his technical focus and our platform made the decision to join an easy one.
Before Gauntlet, Batu spent several years in academic research at the intersection of physics, machine learning, and computational neuroscience. He earned his degree in Theoretical Physics from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul and entered a PhD program at Stony Brook University, conducting research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on neural computation and large-scale systems modeling.
His interests include computational graphs, meshless fluid mechanics, reinforcement learning, and scalable systems. He approaches software the same way he approached research, by building tools that handle complexity without relying on over-complication. We’re excited to see how he brings that mindset to SkyFi.
Batu first learned about SkyFi during his time at Gauntlet AI. He was drawn to the company's mission at the intersection of AI and physics, and the positive experiences shared by Gauntlet alumni already on the team made the decision even easier. He sees numerous potential use cases for SkyFi’s platform, including mapping weather patterns, analyzing CO₂ emissions, and enabling data-driven approaches to climate change mitigation.
Batu will contribute to engineering efforts focused on AI-driven analytics and efficient, reliable satellite data processing. His approach emphasizes reproducibility, system clarity, and long-term maintainability.
As SkyFi continues to expand its Earth intelligence capabilities, Batu’s systems thinking and technical experience will be key to building our scalable data platform.
Of course, there’s more to Batu than algorithms and theoretical physics.
He’s a strong believer in reproducible programming and open-source software, and can talk about systems like Nix for hours. He also enjoys building (if not debating) custom mechanical keyboards. And if that weren’t enough to express his creativity, he’s also very passionate about bodymods, with distinctive tattoos and piercings that reflect his personal brand.
We’re so excited to have him on board! Welcome, Batu!
