Meet Daniel Castillo

From Aerospace to Front End Precision | Welcoming Daniel Castillo to SkyFi

2 min read

Daniel brings engineering discipline, startup versatility, and a calm, focused approach to fast moving teams. He recently joined SkyFi as a Senior Front End Engineer, where he’ll be contributing to one of our highest growth initiatives: white label development for commercial and government platforms.

With a degree in Aerospace Engineering from CU Boulder, Daniel transitioned from orbit dynamics to interface design, applying the same structured thinking to user experience and product performance. “I use my aerospace background and web development skills to build user-friendly interfaces for space related applications,” he shared on LinkedIn. That mindset has carried through years of hands-on development at companies like Kayhan Space, Bonusly, and Booz Allen Hamilton.

Technical, Thoughtful, and Mountain Tested

Daniel lives in Mammoth Lakes, California, a place known for its rugged alpine terrain. When he’s not writing React or debugging with TypeScript, he’s often climbing, biking, snowboarding, or running in the backcountry. His favorite challenge is alpine trad, remote climbs that require technical precision and trust in your setup.

“My favorite is alpine trad,” he told us. “You head into the backcountry, pick a peak, and bring the gear to protect yourself as you go.”

That mindset carries into his engineering work. Build with care. Think ahead. Stay steady under pressure.

What He’s Building at SkyFi

Daniel joins the SkyFi Engineering team during a period of real momentum. He’s supporting development on our white label offering, turnkey storefronts that allow commercial and defense partners to sell their own data through their own branded experience powered by SkyFi’s infrastructure.

On his second day, Daniel said, “It’s good to know there’s a bunch of stuff coming in. That tells me there's going to be a lot of work. I’ve got job security, not ‘we’ll figure it out for you’ energy.”

His reputation precedes him. At Kayhan, Daniel was described by teammates as a strong technical communicator, someone who approaches challenges with enthusiasm, innovation, and a persistent work ethic. That’s exactly what we look for at SkyFi.

We’re glad to have him here. Welcome, Daniel.
