SKYFI IN ATAK

Getting Started with the SkyFi Plugin for ATAK

3 min read

SkyFi and GoTAK have released a TAK plugin that integrates commercial satellite imagery into the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK). The plugin is available on the Google Play Store and works on Android-based End User Devices (EUDs) used by law enforcement, municipal agencies, fire and rescue teams, and military users. It supports both government and civilian deployments.

This page explains how to begin using the plugin in a TAK environment.

Step 1: Set Up a SkyFi Account

A SkyFi Pro account is required to use the plugin. Set up your SkyFi Pro account

You will be asked to select a plan and enter billing details. Once your account is active, you can log in to the SkyFi platform, purchase imagery, and retrieve your API key. This key will be needed during plugin setup.

Step 2: Install the Plugin

Download the SkyFi plugin from the Google Play Store. Google Play Store: SkyFi for ATAK

The plugin works with Android TAK versions 5.3 and 5.4. No additional hardware is required. Devices such as Samsung Galaxy phones and rugged EUDs from GoTAK are compatible.

Step 3: Load the Plugin in ATAK

  1. Open ATAK

  2. Tap the Navigation Drawer (top-right corner)

  3. Select Settings

  4. Go to Tool Preferences

  5. Open Package Management

  6. Locate the SkyFi plugin and check the box next to "Not Loaded" If it does not appear, refresh the package list using the circular arrow icon

Once loaded, the plugin will be available in the main navigation.

Step 4: Enter API Key

  1. Open the SkyFi plugin from the Navigation Drawer

  2. Select Set API Key

  3. Enter the key from your SkyFi account

Your device is now connected to the SkyFi platform.

Step 5: Use the Plugin

After setup is complete, users can begin ordering and viewing imagery in ATAK.

Users can:

  • Log in with their SkyFi account

  • Access and download imagery previously purchased through the SkyFi platform

  • View imagery directly in the TAK map

Imagery can be requested by:

  • Selecting “New Order from My Location”

  • Using the drawing tools to define an area of interest (AOI)

Once the image is processed, it appears in the orders list. Tapping on the image will load it into the map view. Zooming in will cache higher resolution for offline use.

  • Optional hardware add-ons including FLIR, biometric tools, and radios

  • Rental plans such as 10 devices for $3,000/month

These are suitable for departments with limited procurement options.
