2 mi in November read

SkyFi today announced the launch of Single Order Tasking in collaboration with Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), a leading provider of Earth imaging solutions. This new pay-as-you-go satellite tasking option “Powered by SkyFi” makes it faster and easier than ever to acquire high-resolution imagery. Planet’s partnership with SkyFi brings advanced geospatial data and insights into a frictionless, user-friendly interface.

“Single Order Tasking makes high-resolution satellite tasking more accessible,” said Charlie Candy, Chief Revenue Officer at Planet. “By collaborating with SkyFi, we’re providing an intuitive solution ensuring that more users—whether experienced professionals or first-time explorers—can leverage Planet’s data to tackle their unique challenges with confidence.”

Introducing the “Powered by SkyFi” Experience

SkyFi bridges the gap between complex geospatial data and end-users in commercial sectors by delivering a seamlessly integrated solution—one that transforms high resolution imagery into an accessible, intuitive environment. Drawing on user-centric design, real-time scalability, and proven workflows, the “Powered by SkyFi” experience underpins Planet’s Single Order Tasking portal, ensuring customers benefit from:

  • Pay-As-You-Go Flexibility Order and access high-resolution satellite imagery only when needed, ideal for ad-hoc or one-off projects.

  • Proven, Intuitive UX A streamlined interface shaped by real-world feedback, minimizing the learning curve—even for first-time satellite customers.

  • Reduced Complexity High resolution satellite imagery—once accessible only by specialized teams—is now at anyone’s fingertips, requiring little more than an internet connection.

  • Future-Ready Foundation Built on a platform that emphasizes ongoing innovation, new data sources can be seamlessly integrated as they become available.

“SkyFi has always focused on making Earth intelligence accessible to all, and this collaboration with Planet is a perfect example,” said Luke Fischer, CEO at SkyFi. “The ‘Single Order Tasking’ portal isn’t just a new product—it’s an extension of the ‘Powered by SkyFi’ experience. By integrating SkyFi’s proven infrastructure and workflows, Planet’s customers can enjoy a user experience that is both deeply intuitive and surprisingly powerful—without the usual complexities of satellite imagery.”

How It Works for Planet Customers

From Planet’s tasking and pricing pages, users can now choose between two options:

  1. Single Order Tasking

    • A self-service portal, powered by SkyFi, that lets users schedule and receive satellite imagery on a pay-as-you-go basis.

    • Ideal for ad-hoc requests, smaller areas of interest, or first-time satellite customers.

    • Simply sign in, place your order, and receive your capture.

  2. Tasking Dashboard

    • Ideal for larger, ongoing projects, leveraging Tasking Credits for organizations that require regular data collection.

    • Autonomy to submit, modify, and cancel imagery requests online.

    • Near real-time updates from order to fulfillment via Planet’s robust, cloud-based infrastructure.

By adding Single Order Tasking to its portfolio, Planet addresses multiple customer segments: smaller-scale or one-time projects can choose a pay-per-use model, while larger enterprises and government agencies can continue to rely on the Tasking Dashboard for comprehensive initiatives.

The Bigger Picture: Powered by SkyFi for Earth Intelligence

This marks a milestone in SkyFi’s journey toward offering co-branded solutions under the “Powered by SkyFi” umbrella. Hardware providers, enterprise organizations, and government entities can all integrate SkyFi’s user-centric workflows to streamline their own Earth intelligence offerings—without reinventing the wheel.

  • Scalable & Secure Built to accommodate everything from local commercial deployments to sensitive government requirements.

  • Flexible Deployment Custom products, branded portals, and managed service offerings empower each partner to adapt the platform to their unique needs.

  • Ongoing Innovation As new data sources and advanced analytics emerge, they can be seamlessly integrated into the platform.

"It's incredibly exciting to bring our SkyFi experience and lessons learned to Planet's SkySat assets," added Product Manager, Payton Barnwell. "Over the past two years, our customer base has taught us so much about the consumer needs and gaps in Earth observation education, and we had the opportunity to customize and elevate those processes to perfectly fit the goals of Planet's Single Order Tasking platform."
