WMTS Streaming

WMTS streaming on SkyFi

WMTS streaming lets you load your ordered SkyFi imagery directly into your GIS as live map layers. No downloads, no band-fixing, no file conversion.

It's built on WMTS (Web Map Tile Service), an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard supported natively by ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise. Since it's a standard, there's no proprietary connector to install and no special pipeline to maintain. SkyFi imagery behaves like any other professional layer in ArcGIS.

The connection model is what makes it different from a manual export: you connect once, and your entire ordered catalog loads as layers. Each layer shows its acquisition date and provider, tiles load on demand, and new imagery appears automatically as it's delivered, with no reconnecting or re-importing.

Availability: WMTS streaming is included with SkyFi Pro and Enterprise plans. The free tier does not include it. Visibility follows your organization structure: you see your own org's imagery (and your sub-org's, if you're in one), and parent organizations can see sub-org imagery.

FAQs

Do I need a separate link for each image or order? No. One WMTS service link brings in your entire ordered catalog as named layers, and new imagery appears automatically as it's delivered.

Which GIS tools support SkyFi WMTS? ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, and TAK. All support the OGC WMTS standard natively.

Which plans include WMTS streaming? SkyFi Pro and Enterprise. See pricing to upgrade.

Find your WMTS service link

Your WMTS service link is available from any completed order:

  • Go to My Orders in the SkyFi app.

  • Open any completed order.

  • In Order Details, click the ☰ Menu dropdown.

  • Select "Copy WMTS Service Link."

One link covers your entire ordered catalog. There are no per-image or per-order links. It doesn't matter which completed order you copy it from. The same link loads everything your organization has ordered, and new imagery appears automatically as it's delivered.

Connect WMTS in ArcGIS

Before you start, copy your WMTS service link from any completed order.

ArcGIS Pro

  • Go to Insert → Connections → Server → New WMTS Server.

  • Paste the WMTS service URL into the Server URL field.

  • Add any required authentication or custom request parameters, then click OK.

  • In the Catalog pane, expand Servers, then expand the WMTS connection.

  • Drag the desired layer onto the map.

ArcGIS Online

  • Open the map in Map Viewer.

  • Choose Add → Add layer from URL.

  • Paste the WMTS service URL and select OGC WMTS web service as the service type, if it is not detected automatically.

  • Add any required custom parameters, such as an access key.

  • Click Next, select the layer and tile matrix you want to use, then click Add to map.

ArcGIS Enterprise

Users can add a WMTS directly in Map Viewer by choosing Add → Add layer from URL and following the same basic process as in ArcGIS Online.

To make the service easier for others to access, an authorized user can also add the WMTS URL as an item in the Enterprise portal and share that item with the organization or selected groups. Other analysts can then find and add the shared item without entering the URL themselves.

Once connected, every delivered image appears as a named layer with its acquisition date and provider. Tiles load on demand and align automatically with your existing project data, with no re-projecting or georeferencing needed. As new orders are delivered, they show up in the same connection automatically.
